Structural Inspections
Our team of chartered structural engineers and chartered surveyors offer specific structural inspections (also known as specific defect surveys or specific structural surveys) across the country.
Whatever issue you need investigating, Allcott Commercial can help. Having a multi-disciplinary team that includes both surveyors and structural engineers means that we can offer expertise suited to any structural inspection or investigation. It also means that there is no need for expensive referrals if the project requires input from both surveyors and engineers. We will cover everything for you in-house under one report.
We carry out specific structural inspections (SSIs) into any issues with a building’s structure or condition. Our nationwide structural engineering team has expertise in all types of building, from large portal frames, office blocks and retail outlets to residential, period and listed properties and non-standard construction.

Our structural engineering team are experienced in providing specialist advice in relation to structural faults, repair and conservation of existing buildings. They have a strong understanding of historic construction methods and materials, and have developed methods of assessment and analysis that reflect the intentions of the original designers, but are also compatible with modern checking requirements. This approach often allows us to show that elements of an existing structure are satisfactory, which may otherwise need to be removed if modern codes of practice were applied unthinkingly. We can also support tenants on their lease obligations, by providing structural inspections and preventive maintenance advice.
Our approach to structural defects is appropriate to the situation; we will not suggest extensive works where they are not required, nor will we leave any structure unsafe.
If you have any concerns about a property you own, rent or are purchasing, then contact our structural engineers and surveyors – we would be happy to talk through your options.
Urgent structural issues
There may be situations where there are concerns over the safety or structural stability of structures or structural elements, which require attendance from a chartered surveyor or structural engineer at short notice. Having provided a reactive structural service to many clients for a number of years, our team understands the importance of providing a rapid response to provide business continuity.
For urgent issues, such as a structure at risk of collapse, we can often send someone to site on the same day. Using our network of builders and contractors, we can arrange temporary works at very short notice to make buildings safe whilst more complex remedial measures are arranged.
Our SSI reports
Our specific structural inspection reports are comprehensive and provide in-depth detail describing our findings, accompanied by relevant photos illustrating our points. We will assess the build type and materials, clearly describe any issues and state whether or not there are any structural problems. If defects our found, we will go into detail on how serious they are, what remedials works are required and estimated costs for any repairs.
If required, our structural engineers will put together designs and structural calculations for remedial works. We also offer contract administration services to support you with organising and executing the works, from specification through to completion.
